I hope you will like this electronic newsletter. To be deleted from the list, you can Unsubscribe at the end of this issue. We will quickly and permanently remove your email address from our list (we'll be sorry to see you go). But, be aware that one of our enthusiastic readers suggested that “…bocce and unsubscribe are mutually exclusive terms.”
********************************************************************************************
If you know others who would enjoy and benefit from this Ezine, encourage them to sign up. You could forward this issue to them (see Forward link at bottom of newsletter) so they can decide for themselves if they want to "opt in". I promise that I will never be in the business of selling or trading your email address or other personal information.

A word about ads: Like any entrepreneurial type, I'd love to turn a profit from something I really enjoy. For now, I have decided not to accept paid advertisements. If I pitch a product here, it is something I have examined and tested and deem it beneficial to our readers.
********************************************************************************************
PLEASE – we are always looking for bocce photos and feedback from all over the USA. We want to connect bocce fans everywhere. You can email (author@joyofbocce.com) or snail mail (Mario Pagnoni, P.O. Box 608, Methuen, MA 01844).

2ND EDITION UPDATE
We are sooo close to completion of the Joy of Bocce 2nd edition - it is looking good and we are hoping to get it into the bookstores and for sale online in a couple weeks. Stay tuned. Anyone thinking about purchasing right now might want to hold off until the new and improved book is available...on the other hand, I am thinking that an autographed copy of the first edition just might become a collectible (I've already seen it on Amazon.com for >$150).

Readers’ Feedback
{Publisher’s comments in brackets}
Dr. Angel Cordano sends the picture to the right and the following...
"Here is a picture of bocce courts in Brasil that was forwarded to me by a bocce player. I already forwarded your Ezine to him and he is quite happy with the news."
{Thanks Dr. C - looks like a fabulous bocce venue. I understand that there is a good deal of outstanding bocce played in South America.}
********************************************************************************************
Benji Tosi writes...
"Hope all is well for you in Massachusetts. Things out here are good. Macao and I practice volo all the time and are preparing for the 2005 world championships.
I'll be sure to send you some images in a few weeks of the boys and I out at Aquatic Park Bocce Club, the nation's last bastion for Volo purists. Not to mention we have the sweetest location around. Also, congrats on the Newsweek article!"
{Yes, Yes, Yes - send photos of those volo purists in action!}
********************************************************************************************
Tony Trasatti offers...
"Love your newsletter. Thanks for taking the time.
Possible to make the font a bit larger? My viewing is at 1024x768 and the newletter only covers 1/3 of the width of the screen, and is difficult to read at my advanced age of 45.
Have built a 91x13 court in my backyard in Middletown, Delaware. Just for fun. Stone dust top dressing. Hope to have a party in 2 weeks, and will send some photos if you are interested.
{Thanks for writing and reading...this ezine is a template driven device - I just drop in the text and photos - have almost no control over the sizes of images and text. Sorry...but... Yes, we are always interested in photos of bocce around the country. Please send with a little info on the location and court features, etc.}

Julianna Fernandez emails...
"I am a college student at California State University, Stanislaus in Turlock, California. I want to be a teacher and I am in a physical education class for elementary school students. For the final in this class, we have to develop a lesson plan and teach a sport to our classmates as if they were children. I chose Bocce Ball.
In one of your articles Frank Cappelli's Bocci Ball mood music is mentioned. I thought that music would make a great addition to my final project. I was hoping there was a website that I could purchase his music at or any way to obtain his music quickly."
{What a terrific idea for a project. Please let us know how it turns out. I taught school for 32 years - started out as a 7th grade science teacher and ending up teaching computer science and desktop publishing in high school.
The guy who records the children's songs is...
F. E. Cappelli Publishing Co., 717 North Meadowcroft Ave., Pittsburg, PA 15216
You might find his Pass the Coconut CD on line - I found the link below without much effort...
Thanks for helping promote the game we love. Sounds like you will make a wonderful teacher.
Here are the lyrics for ...
Bocci Ball
By Frank Cappelli
How ‘bout a friendly game of bocci?
We’ll take our turns, we’ll take our aim so nicely
We’ll throw the little round poleena now
Throw the ball
The bocci ball
Please go first and toss your ball as close to the poleena as you can
Throw the ball
The bocci ball
We all watch as you show us how you play the game, mio caro amico
Your toss is smooth, we look and lean-a
The ball is going toward the small poleena
We can see it is a very good toss
Throw the ball
The bocci ball
We have heard you, now we see you, all the best to you, oh mio caro amico
Your toss is smooth, we look and lean-a
The ball is going toward the small poleena
We can see it is a very good toss
Throw the ball
The bocci ball
Let us watch you as you try to get your ball slightly closer than mine
Your toss is grand, we watch and lean-a
The ball is going toward the small poleena
And we can see it is a very good toss
Throw the ball
The bocci ball
It’s your turn and we all see how good at bocci ball you really, really, really are
Your toss is smooth, we look and lean-a
The ball is going toward the small poleena
We can see it is a very good toss
We walk together toward the small poleena
To find who’s closer and to find the winn-a
It’s a tie so let us play again

Also, Rico Daniele sells a cassette tape with a bocce song that he commissioned an artist to create.You can reach him in Massachusetts at 1-800-BOCCE54.}

This week’s photos highlight our recent and annual New England Clambake Bocce Tourney held in Salem, NH.
First, we picked co-ed teams of four at random. We mixed in our Monday morning "bocce regulars" and their significant others/guests. It's always best to select the teams ahead of time based on registrations rather than on the day of the event.
Using an Amateur Softball Association tournament book which has brackets for up to 64 teams, we set up a bracket board for 11 teams - double elimination.
I'm always in favor of gift baskets or articles of clothing (t-shirts, jackets) as awards. We purchased four large gift baskets for the winners, four smaller ones for the runners-up. Also, we gave the gift basket company a few bocce items (books, measures, etc.) to include along with the gourmet items in each basket.
We have four courts at our venue, allowing us to handle 11 teams double elimination in one day - plenty of room for spectators too.
We started the bocce tourney at 10:00 AM, broke for lunch (clambake) and returned to the bocce action.
This year we decided not to have the clambake catered, and, with the help of good people and good equipment, created a wonderful day for our group.
Good food, good friends, good bocce - what a triple play!
