Shady Oak Cellars Winery & Bocce Club

Photos courtesy of John and Andrea Ross. According to John, "These pictures are of our backyard, also known as Shady Oak Cellars Winery and Bocce Club, located in Monte Sereno, CA." The court measures 80 feet by 11 feet. The base is six inches of compacted crushed granite fines with a topping of oyster shell flour and sand, about 1/8 to 1/4 inch think. There are four 500 watt halogen lights along one side of the court for night play.

"Our scoreboard is made out of a scrap piece of redwood 2 X 6 about three feet long. The markers are 1 1/2 inch wooden balls (from a craft store) with 3/8 inch dowels attached by drilling and gluing. The scoreboard holes are 7/16 inch in diameter. Note that zero is the first point on the scoreboard."
{Note: Laminated USBF Official Membership Certificates are proudly and prominently displayed by the scoreboard."

"This is our non-commercial winery, Shady Oak Cellars. Andrea's potting shed is above, our winery is below in the basement."

Dr. Cordano poses with Andrea and John Ross. The Cordanos were in town for the Big Ben raffa tournament at Campo di Bocce. See Joy of Bocce Weekly Volume VIII - Issue 17 for details of this court construction {Click the above photo to view}.
