St. Francis Assisi
Tucson, Arizona

Photos by Mike Grasser show two courts at the St. Francis Assisi Church/High School complex. Says Mike, "To get to the courts take 22nd St. east out of town to Camino Rd. Go south on Camino Seco to church on left. Courts are between church and high school."

St. Francis Assisi Seminary is now a Tucson, Arizona high school.

Mike tells us that "Frank from Boston, Mass. shoots a raffa shot. The courts are 16' by 70' with a playing surface of compacted fine gravel."

"Tony Rossi of Tucson shoots a raffa. Tony is a great promoter of bocce in the Tucson area."

This game included 16 players and 32 bocce balls, taking 3 1/2 hours to play to 16 points. "We played this way for the fun of it, just to see how the game would go."

According to Grasser..."Tony (NY), Tony (Racine, Wisconsin), Jim (Tucson, Arizona) and Gene (Tucson) study the point." {Looks like they have 45 degree angle boards in the corners. This usually means they play the backboards live and use the corner boards to get some ricochet action in.}
