Bocce_Caddy

	That's me in my yard trying out the Bocce Caddy. Sorry I couldn't get a better looking model on short notice. From left to right the balls are largest to smallest. Although designed for the international standard 107 mm balls, I wanted to see if the device could work for various sized bocce.	According to Delucchi, "The design was to accommodate the regulation 107 mm ball. Smaller balls should work provided that they are not less than 3-3/4" Dia. Larger balls (approaching 4-1/4") that result in some resistance during pick up may be a problem."
First I tried the international standard 107 mm balls. You place the device over the ball and 5 spring clips grasp it perfectly.	Next, with one ball already captured, I place the Caddy over the second ball. It picks that one up perfectly too.	Here you can see the second ball sitting on top of the first, both nestled neatly in the device for me to take out for my next rolls.
Next I tried that white ball which is one of the EPCO World Cup balls - 110 mm.	Picked up the 110 mm ball with no trouble.	Ready to roll.
Next I tried the largest ball I could find, an antique wooden set that I think is 114mm.	I had to push the device down over the large ball, but it captured the ball just like the smaller ones.	Ready to roll.

The Bocce Guy's Evaluation

I could tell pretty quickly that Delucchi hit a home run with this ingenious product. I like the idea that it is designed for 107 mm international standard balls. We should all be promoting that standard anyway. The fact that it picked up larger and smaller balls is a bonus. (The small yellow ball in the photo is 100 mm and it had no trouble with that size either).

Delucchi cautions this with the larger diameter balls, however...

The slight interference during pick up (metal to plastic) may scar the bocce ball.

Forcing the spring clips to a full closed position may hamper the reliability of a full spring return to the open position once the ball passes.

The outer most component during ball pick-up is the adjusting screw. Impact on the adjusting screw may jar and compromise the integrity of its lock tight thread seal.
